Let’s Compare …

Last week we opened up about our wanting to work with Action On Sugar. We gave you the low down on our tasty little foursome, and even named and shamed a couple of big boys in the drink industry … but now we’re really looking to go into detail on what it is your putting past your gullet. We’ve got together information on four well known energy drink products, and put them against our lean, mean, and fatigue-fighting machine, ViVA Mind.

MonsterEnergy

Monster Energy Drink -

55 grams of added sugar throughout the product. Nutrients included vitamins B2,3,6 & 12 …. but also colours, preservatives, and sweeteners in order for them to get their taste and colour!

Sugar – 55 grams

Other РColours (Anthocyanins) , Preservatives (Sorbic Acid),  Sweeteners (Sucralose).

RedBull

Red Bull Original -

27.5g of added sugar in one small serving. Despite the addition of Vitamins B3, 5, 6, and 12, they have packed an incredible 80mg of caffeine into such a small portion!! Furthermore, Red Bull has flavourings, colours, and regulators on their ingredients list!

Sugar – 27.5 grams

Other – Flavourings, Colours (Caramel), Regulators (Sodium Citrates).

LucSport

Lucozade Sport (Orange) -

Though now well known for being a good source of energy for sportsmen and women, Lucozade Sport contained 17.5 grams of added sugar throughout one portion, and in their ingredients they had Preservatives, Colours, and specifically the sweetener, Aspartame. Furthermore, they only had 2 of the common occurring vitamins that we’ve seen: B6 & 12, making us believe that all of the artificial things are what make you feel so boosted.

Sugar – 17.5 grams

Other РPreservatives (Potassium Sorbate), Colours (Beta-Carotene) ,  Sweeteners (Aspartame).

InnocentEnergise

Innocent Energise -

We can’t fault innocent in terms of natural resources. Like us, they only use natural products in order to make all of their drinks and we really do commend them for that, however, and sorry to have to bring it up again, but their sugar content is severe, and in a 360ml serving of Energise, you’ll receive 50.4 grams of sugar!!

Sugar – 50.4 grams

Finally, ViVA Mind -

Now that you’ve heard a bit about all of the competitors that you commonly see and buy and drink, we’ll give you the facts about our very own energiser, Mind. In terms of size, we sit right in the middle of the group at 330ml per portion – but the sugar content is undoubtedly lower than the rest (we have only 15.2 grams despite all of our ingredients being natural). Next up, the added ingredients – we don’t have any!! Unlike all of the other brands in this post (except Innocent), we haven’t and won’t ever add artificial preservatives, colours, flavours, sweeteners, or regulators to our products – though we do have more natural B vitamins than the rest (B1, 2, 3, 5 & 6).

Sugar – 15.2 grams

Other – Vitamins B1, 2, 3, 5 & 6.
